All For This Moment

I often sign off text and emails with “all for this moment” – and today, my cousin Alice said to me “that should be the title of your next blog”. So here it is.

What do I mean when I say all for “this” moment?

As we have all experienced, moments go by in the blink of an eye. Whether you define a moment as ten or 60 seconds … whether you measure it by the time it takes to have some fun, or do some specific work, moments have their unique beginnings and endings. And of course, there are many moments for which we have the deepest regrets.

But the main point here is how do we stay engaged, especially during times that really matter? I listened to an inspiring vlog by my friend Elizabeth Ross-Holmstrom about listening. She shares that we can’t multi-task and be fully listening at the same time. You know what it’s like, you’re distracted by trying to do two things at once, yet we will insist we are listening! We’d likely fail a quiz on some of what the other person is sharing. Elizabeth also shared, we are often waiting for someone to finish whatever it is they’re saying so that we can speak our own minds or truth.

We’ve all been there; we like to consider ourselves listening but we’re only half doing so. And yes, you’ve heard this before, but … you still do it! I know I do. This simple, but loaded phrase has timely lessons for all of us.

Take another look: “All” for this moment could be interpreted to mean, I give my all for (to) this moment. Wouldn’t that be grand? But then, it often means, time for me to run now … goodbye.

Here’s an assignment: Write down how you will spin your own meaning of “all for this moment” – for this coming week, what will you do differently? How will you discipline yourself to make the time you allocate to anything be the fullest time it needs to be? Who will help you be and do better in your most important moments? Let me know, I’d love to hear your stories …

All for this moment,

p.s. I’m playing with video again, and shortly I’ll be sending you a deeper dive into this blog … let me know what you think!
